Wine Country at NLS

The drive between tastings.

Wine country deserves a chauffeur. Not just for the obvious safety reason (though that matters), but because navigating Napa, Sonoma, Temecula, or Santa Barbara well requires regional knowledge. Which winery has views that justify the timing. Which restaurant accommodates large parties. Which back roads avoid weekend traffic. NLS chauffeurs know the answers.

NLS has been driving California Wine Country since 1989, and is an official Visit California partner. From Bay Area dispatch, we coordinate hundreds of Napa, Sonoma, and Russian River Valley tours each year. From Los Angeles dispatch, we cover Temecula, Malibu, Santa Barbara, and San Diego County. Most regular clients book multiple Wine Country tours a year: for visiting guests, milestone celebrations, business hospitality, or simply because a Saturday in wine country is one of the best days California offers.

Most NLS Wine Country tours run 6 to 8 hours from pickup to return. They typically cover 2 to 4 wineries with a lunch stop. We can also coordinate multi-day Wine Country experiences with overnight stays, more wineries, and deeper exploration of specific appellations across either Northern or Southern California.

For first-time Wine Country visitors, our concierge can suggest itineraries based on your wine preferences, group size, and what kind of day you're looking for. For experienced visitors, we drive your plan exactly as you've designed it.

How a tour flows.

Most Wine Country tours begin with a 9:00 to 10:00 AM pickup. From the Bay Area, the drive to Napa or Sonoma takes 1.5 to 2 hours. From Los Angeles, drives are shorter for Malibu (under 1 hour) and Temecula (1.5 hours); Santa Barbara and San Diego County are about 2 hours.

From there, most tours follow a standard rhythm: 2 wineries before lunch (around 1:00 PM), lunch at a vineyard restaurant (1.5 hours), then 1 to 2 wineries after lunch with the last tasting wrapping by 4:00 to 4:30 PM. Return arrives by 6:30 to 7:00 PM.

NLS chauffeurs have been driving Wine Country for years. They know which wineries are good in the morning versus the afternoon, which routes avoid weekend traffic, and how to read when you're ready to leave a tasting (or want to stay longer).

Pricing is hourly, typically 8 to 9 hours total including the drive each way. We provide a transparent quote at booking. Your tasting fees, lunch, and any wine purchases are paid directly to each venue. Tolls, parking, and the 20% gratuity (which may be modified) are itemized on the final invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions.

What regions do NLS Wine Country tours cover?
NLS chauffeured Wine Country tours cover both Northern and Southern California. Northern California: Napa Valley, Sonoma County (Sonoma Valley, Healdsburg, Dry Creek, Alexander Valley), Russian River Valley, Carneros, and Calistoga. Southern California: Temecula Valley, Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains, Santa Barbara County (Santa Ynez Valley, Funk Zone, Los Olivos, Solvang), and San Diego County (Ramona Valley, San Pasqual Valley). We can also coordinate less-traveled appellations like Anderson Valley and the Santa Cruz Mountains.
How long is a typical Wine Country tour?
Most NLS Wine Country tours run 6 to 8 hours of total chauffeured time including transportation from your pickup point. Half-day tours (4 to 5 hours) typically cover 2 wineries. Full-day tours (8 to 10 hours) cover 3 to 4 wineries with a lunch stop. Multi-day tours allow deeper exploration of a region.
Does NLS make tasting reservations for us?
Yes. Through our network of concierge partners and direct relationships with vintners, NLS can coordinate tasting reservations as part of your tour planning. For high-demand wineries (Screaming Eagle, Harlan Estate, etc.), advance planning is essential. We're also happy to drive a tour you've planned independently.
What vehicles are best for Wine Country tours?
Cadillac Escalade SUV is the most popular Wine Country vehicle: comfortable for 1 to 6 passengers, with cargo capacity for wine purchases. For couples or solo travelers, a Mercedes S-Class sedan offers a more intimate experience. For groups of 7 to 14, Sprinter vans with conference seating work well.
How are Wine Country tours priced?
Most NLS Wine Country tours are billed hourly, including the drive from your pickup point through return. The hourly structure is flexible: if your day runs longer or shorter, billing adjusts. Tasting fees, food, and any winery purchases are paid directly by you to each venue. Tolls, parking, and the 20% gratuity (which may be modified) are itemized on your final invoice.
How far in advance should I book a Wine Country tour?
For weekends during peak season (April through October), we recommend booking 2 to 4 weeks in advance, especially if you want specific tasting reservations. Off-season weekday tours can typically be confirmed within 1 week. For specific high-demand wineries, advance planning is critical.
Can you arrange overnight Wine Country experiences?
Yes. Multi-day Wine Country experiences are common: typically with one night at a Wine Country property (Auberge du Soleil, Carneros Resort, Meadowood, or comparable luxury accommodations in Santa Barbara or Temecula) and 2 to 3 days of tastings across multiple regions. Hotel and chauffeur accommodations are coordinated as part of the planning.
Do you offer Wine Country tours departing from Los Angeles?
Yes. NLS Los Angeles operations coordinate Wine Country tours throughout Southern California. Temecula Valley is about 1.5 hours from most LA pickup points. Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains are under an hour. Santa Barbara County and the Santa Ynez Valley are about 2 hours. San Diego County wine regions like Ramona Valley are about 2 hours from LA. Each region has its own character, from Temecula's resort-heavy estates to Malibu's hillside tasting rooms.
What happens if our group includes someone who doesn't drink?
Most wineries offer non-alcoholic options or food pairing menus for non-drinking guests. NLS chauffeurs are happy to suggest scenic stops, alternate activities, or quiet moments for guests who'd rather skip a particular tasting. Your tour, your pace.
