What Hourly Charter Is

The flexible standard.

Some days don't fit a single transfer. You have three meetings across the city, a lunch in between, and a dinner reservation that may or may not run long. You don't want to manage three separate bookings. You want one chauffeur, one car, all day.

That's hourly charter. The chauffeur arrives at your starting location, stays with you through the day's stops, waits when you're inside, drives when you're ready, and returns you to your final destination, all for one continuous booking and one final invoice.

It's the right service when your itinerary has multiple stops, open or flexible timing, extended waits at any stop (more than 30 minutes), or simply the desire for a chauffeur to be there throughout the day rather than re-booking at every stop.

Most NLS hourly charters run 4 to 8 hours. Half-day, full-day, and multi-day options are all common. Each is priced by the hour with the same vehicle and chauffeur for the duration. For broader corporate travel programs or specialty itineraries like wine country tours, hourly charter is the underlying engine.

How chauffeur-as-directed works.

The chauffeur is dedicated to you for the booked time block. They wait at each stop, follow your timing, and adjust to changes throughout the day.

You give your chauffeur the day's plan at the start of service, written or verbal, and they handle the rest. Schedule changes, additional stops, restaurant reservations, all of it gets coordinated as you go.

Most clients communicate directly with the chauffeur for the day's logistics. For more complex itineraries, dispatch can pre-load the route and provide written confirmation of timing and stops.

Billing accumulates from the chauffeur's departure from the garage to their return, what's known as garage-to-garage time. The minimum booking is 2 hours, with 15-minute increments after that. Wait time during stops counts toward your booking, but is what you're paying for, not an extra charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions.

What is hourly charter service?
Hourly charter is chauffeur-as-directed service. A dedicated chauffeur and vehicle for a continuous block of time, with the chauffeur taking instructions from you on stops, routes, and timing throughout. Unlike a transfer or single-route booking, hourly charter is designed for itineraries with multiple stops, open schedules, or full-day travel.
What is the minimum time commitment for hourly charter?
NLS hourly charter has a two-hour minimum for sedans and SUVs. After the first two hours, billing continues in 15-minute increments. Specialty vehicles like Sprinter vans may have different minimums depending on availability.
When is hourly charter the right choice over a single transfer?
Hourly charter is the right choice when you need multiple stops along a route, an itinerary with timing flexibility, an open schedule (sightseeing, shopping, or all-day appointments), wait time at any stop exceeding 30 minutes, or a chauffeur who stays with you throughout a series of meetings or events. For a single direct trip with no stops, a standard airport transfer or single-route booking is more economical.
Can I extend an hourly charter booking on the day of service?
Yes, subject to chauffeur and vehicle availability. If your day runs longer than expected, communicate with your chauffeur or call our 24/7 concierge. Additional time is added to the existing booking and billed at the same hourly rate. We recommend booking with a buffer when possible to ensure availability.
Does the chauffeur stay with me during stops?
Yes. With hourly charter, your chauffeur and vehicle are dedicated to you for the duration of your booking. The chauffeur will wait at each stop, ready to depart whenever you are. There is no need to release and re-book the vehicle between stops, which is what makes hourly charter well-suited to multi-stop days.
What does an hourly charter cost?
Hourly rates depend on vehicle class (sedan, SUV, Sprinter, etc.) and time of booking. We provide transparent quotes at booking with no surprise fees during service. Standard inclusions are 20% gratuity (applied to every bill), tolls, and parking when applicable. Contact our 24/7 concierge for a specific quote.
Can I do an overnight or multi-day charter?
Yes. Multi-day charters with the same chauffeur and vehicle are common for executive visits, multi-city roadshows, and extended events. Overnight accommodations and meals for the chauffeur are added to the bill at cost. Extended bookings benefit from continuity, since the chauffeur learns your preferences and routes.
What is the cancellation policy for hourly charter?
Cancellations within 24 hours of the scheduled start time may incur a fee equal to the base rate multiplied by the hourly minimum. To avoid fees, cancel at least 24 hours in advance. Full terms in our Terms & Conditions.
